why the early morning fireworks?

the last entry from January (pre-hospitalization, when I was a virtual insomniac and blogging seemed like another good thing to do instead of sleeping...) didn't show up, so maybe it will work this time. otherwise my husband will school this techie wannabe.
Greetings to loved ones near and far. This past Sunday, the first of July, Samuel celebrated his first birthday and was dedicated at First Free. Our parents were able to come for the celebrations, but Tante Randi fell prey to some awful food poisoning (there is no other kind) and stayed home in MN to recover. It will not be one of those things we laugh at looking back for a while, she felt really miserable and we missed her a lot.
So my burning question for the day is... "Who are these people that are setting off fireworks at 8am the third of July?" Are they calling in sick to do this? Are they just extraordinarily patriotic? (because this has been going on since the middle of June) Are they pyromaniacs? It's 8AM, folks.
(but while you're at it, could you please take out one of those squirrels that ate my daffodil bulbs, the ones in cahoots that peed on Duane and Amy's potted flowers in Logan Square, and please, please--- all those nasty pigeons that mate loudly with all the other nasty pigeons outside our living room at 6am? thanks.)
